There is no pump, no heating element and no power lead. The stove stands beside the tub, you light a fire in it, and the water circulates through it on its own as it warms.
Cedar staves, stainless steel straps, an insulated cover and a set of steps arrive as a kit. The floor, the benchtops and the stairs come already made up, so most of the work is standing the staves and pulling the straps tight.
The stove works on the thermosiphon principle. Water heated inside the firebox rises and leaves through the top hose, which drops the pressure behind it and draws cool water out of the bottom of the tub. That loop runs for as long as the fire is lit.
Because nothing has to be pumped, there is no motor to fail and nothing to plug in. The firebox is wrapped in a double wall water jacket, so the whole of it transfers heat rather than just the top.
Cedar is the standard. The staves are around 38 mm thick, and the grain swells evenly once wet, which is what pulls a barrel tub water tight without sealant. It also carries its own scent and resists rot and insects on its own.
Thermowood is the alternative, hemlock baked at 180 to 230 degrees for up to 96 hours. The heat drives out what fungi feed on, so it holds its shape, insulates a little better and lasts longer outdoors.
An internal stove eats the seat it stands on and puts hot metal in the water with you. This one stands clear of the shell and connects with two hoses, which leaves the whole bench ring free.
It is easier to live with too. You load wood, rake ash and clean the firebox from outside, without leaning over the water.
The cover is a high density polystyrene foam core in UV resistant marine grade vinyl, with chlorine resistant fittings and lockable safety clips.
Left on, it holds the heat in after the fire dies down and keeps leaves, rain and anything else out of the water.
A wood fired tub goes where the power does not. No circuit, no electrician and no meter ticking over while it heats, which makes it as workable at a shack or a block with no mains as it is on a back deck in town.
It also asks very little of you once it is in. There is no pump to service and no filtration to run. You keep the water clean, keep the cover on, and light a fire when you want to use it.
Firewood heats it. Nothing is drawing power between soaks.
No power connection to plan around, so siting is up to you and the ground under it.

Cedar and 304 stainless are both meant to sit outside. The tub weathers rather than degrades.

Includes a hot tub liner. Timber tubs depend on a precise fit between the staves to stay watertight, and once assembled and sealed correctly, yours will hold water on its own. The liner is included so you always have a simple way to guarantee a flawless seal. Fit it at any time, with no additional sealing or maintenance required.
