Canadian Red Cedar Barrel Sauna Installation
We recently completed the installation of a Canadian Red Cedar Barrel Sauna with Porch for a private property in Dairy Plains, Tasmania. This project demonstrates how a traditional outdoor barrel sauna can be installed to create a relaxing backyard wellness space with a complete sauna setup including heater, accessories, and weather protection.
The customer selected the Canadian Red Cedar Barrel Sauna for its natural durability, excellent insulation properties, and classic barrel design that promotes efficient heat circulation. Red cedar is well known for its resistance to moisture, long lifespan, and pleasant natural aroma, making it one of the most popular timber choices for outdoor saunas.
The sauna measures 2000 mm in diameter and 2400 mm in length and includes a front porch area, providing a convenient space to cool down between sessions. This layout creates a comfortable transition area while also enhancing the overall outdoor sauna experience.
For heating, the sauna was paired with a Harvia The Wall Electric Sauna Heater (6kW) with an internal controller. This compact heater is designed for medium-sized sauna rooms and delivers reliable, consistent heat while maintaining a sleek black steel finish that complements modern sauna designs.
To improve weather protection and long-term durability, the sauna was fitted with bitumen roof shingles, helping protect the structure from rain and environmental exposure while maintaining the natural cedar appearance.
The sauna package also included essential sauna accessories to complete the setup, including a set of sauna rocks, spruce bucket and ladle, thermometer & hygrometer, sauna clock, interior sauna lamp, and sauna pillows, providing everything needed for comfortable and authentic sauna sessions.
