A modern ThermoWood sauna on a timber deck, beside the outdoor kitchen and under big native trees.
This Leil Viva 210 outdoor sauna now stands in a garden in Vaucluse, in Sydney's eastern suburbs. It is our Leil Viva 210 Outdoor Series, made in Estonia from 40 mm ThermoWood.
The sauna sits on a concrete pad framed by a timber deck, a few steps from a covered outdoor kitchen. A tall hedge gives privacy on one side, and big native trees shade it from above. A wooden sauna bucket and ladle wait on the kitchen bench, ready for the next session.
Vaucluse sits on the south side of Sydney Harbour, between Rose Bay and Watsons Bay. Many homes here are built around outdoor living, and a sauna fits right in. Heat up, cool down in the fresh air, then back to the garden.
The Viva 210 seats 4 to 6 people. Its benches are wider and deeper than in a compact sauna, so there is room to stretch out or recline during a longer session. Outside, it measures 2115 x 1800 mm and stands 2340 mm tall, on a footprint of about 3.8 m².
The walls, floor and roof are 40 mm ThermoWood, a heat-treated timber that stays stable in sun and rain. An EPDM rubber cover protects the roof. The front has vertical timber bars and a tempered bronze glass door with a long bar handle and black hinges, a look that suits a modern home and garden.
Inside, thermo alder benches and backrests stay comfortable to sit on, and three vents keep the air moving. This one also has LED strips under the benches, an option on the Viva, for a warm glow. The Viva 210 works with an electric heater or a wood burning heater, and it arrives as a DIY kit with an instruction manual.
The footprint is about 2.1 x 1.8 m, so it fits beside a deck, a pool or an outdoor kitchen without taking over the garden.
ThermoWood walls and an EPDM roof cover stand up to summer sun, rain and humid coastal air, all year round.
Run it with an electric heater for easy everyday use, or with a wood burning heater for the feel of a real fire.
