Saunas available through Shym Saunas
Not every sauna is the same. The best choice depends on whether you want traditional sauna heat or infrared heat, how many people will use it, and whether you want an indoor cabin or an outdoor backyard sauna.
Outdoor saunas
Shym Saunas offers outdoor sauna styles including barrel, square/cabin and modern European designs. Options include compact models for smaller backyards as well as larger saunas designed for families and shared use.

Infrared saunas
The Aura Infrared Sauna Series is designed for indoor home use and comes in four sizes from single-seat to four-person models. Aura cabins use far-infrared carbon panels and connect to a normal 10 amp power point.
Heaters & accessories
Shym Saunas also supplies sauna heaters, sauna stones, lighting and sauna-care products to help complete and maintain your setup.
Why choose Shym Saunas in Wollongong?
Buying a sauna is about more than choosing a timber cabin or heater. You need to consider the type of sauna, available space, capacity, heating method, electrical requirements, delivery access and how you plan to use it.
Shym Saunas combines an Australian family-owned business with an established product range and a physical NSW warehouse in Port Kembla.
Why customers choose Shym Saunas:
- NSW warehouse located at 154 Shellharbour Rd, Port Kembla NSW 2505
- Aura infrared saunas available in 1 to 4 person models at the Wollongong warehouse
- Selected HUUM sauna heaters stocked locally
- European LED sauna lighting available locally
- Premium outdoor and indoor sauna range available through Shym Saunas
- Shipping across Australia and New Zealand
- Practical guidance on choosing the right sauna, heater and accessories
- Collection available by prior arrangement only
Which sauna is right for your Wollongong home?
Start with how you expect to use the sauna.
- For couples or small familiesA compact 2 to 4 person or 3 to 5 person sauna can balance footprint and capacity.
- For families and entertainingA larger outdoor model gives you more bench space and room to use the sauna together.
- For indoor useThe Aura infrared range provides indoor infrared options in compact 1 to 4 person formats.
- For a traditional sauna experienceExplore Shym’s outdoor barrel, cabin and European sauna ranges paired with a suitable electric or wood-fired heater.
If you are unsure, start with four questions:
- How many people will normally use the sauna?
- Where will it be installed?
- Do you want traditional or infrared heat?
- What power, access and base conditions does your property allow?
Outdoor saunas for Wollongong & the Illawarra
Wollongong and the surrounding Illawarra region offer opportunities for a backyard sauna, particularly where an existing outdoor area, deck or garden can be incorporated into a dedicated wellness space.
When planning an outdoor sauna, look beyond advertised capacity. Check the external footprint, access, base or foundation, ventilation, heater requirements and the space needed around the sauna.
For a coastal or exposed property, also consider timber selection, weather protection and ongoing maintenance.
How does delivery work?
A local warehouse does not mean every sauna model is physically stored in Wollongong. Larger sauna models and other products may be dispatched from other Shym Saunas locations or arranged specifically for your order.
For Wollongong and NSW customers, the team can help you understand product availability, freight requirements and the most practical delivery option before you order.
For larger outdoor saunas, access is particularly important:
- Driveway and gate width
- Turning space for delivery vehicles
- Steps or steep access
- Distance from unloading point to installation area
- Base or foundation readiness
- Whether the sauna arrives as a kit or in a more assembled format
Planning your sauna installation
Before buying an outdoor sauna, plan the site as carefully as the sauna itself.
- Space and clearanceMeasure the available footprint and allow practical room around the sauna for access, maintenance and safe operation.
- BaseThe sauna needs a suitable, level base appropriate to the model and site.
- Electrical requirementsElectric sauna heaters have specific power requirements. Confirm these before installation with a qualified electrician where required.
- VentilationTraditional saunas need appropriate ventilation to support a comfortable sauna environment and effective air movement.
- AccessGetting the sauna components into the backyard can be a more important logistical question than assembly itself.
Real Australian sauna projects
Shym Saunas has supplied sauna projects across Australia, including NSW.
A useful NSW example is the UNION 160 outdoor sauna project in Eden. The customer collected the sauna from the Wollongong warehouse, while the heater and accessories were delivered separately to the property. The project used thermo-treated Nordic Spruce, a HARVIA Cilindro heater and split-level Thermo-Aspen benches.
This demonstrates how the Wollongong warehouse can support customers beyond the immediate city, with local collection available for suitable orders and separate freight arrangements for other components.
Why a home sauna?
A home sauna can turn an underused backyard, pool area, gym or indoor wellness space into a place you return to regularly.
For many homeowners, the appeal is simple: convenience, privacy and the ability to build sauna time into everyday life without travelling to a commercial facility.
At Shym Saunas, the broader mission is centred on creating spaces for relaxation, connection and meaningful time together. The right sauna should fit the way you actually live.
