Saunas for homes across Tasmania
Shym Saunas supplies saunas to customers throughout Tasmania, from Launceston and Hobart to coastal towns, rural properties and smaller regional communities.
Tasmania’s cooler climate and varied landscapes make outdoor sauna placement particularly important. The right location can help protect the sauna from excessive exposure while making it convenient to use throughout the year.
When choosing a sauna for a Tasmanian property, consider:
- Available footprint
- Number of regular users
- Indoor versus outdoor installation
- Timber selection
- Weather exposure
- Roof and drainage
- Base or foundation
- Electrical requirements
- Wood-fired versus electric heating
- Delivery and site access
- Ongoing timber maintenance
Outdoor saunas for Hobart, Launceston & regional Tasmania
Whether you live in Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Burnie, the Tamar Valley, the Huon Valley or a rural Tasmanian property, the same basic buying principle applies: choose the sauna around your property and how you intend to use it.
- For smaller urban properties, compact barrel or cabin models can make efficient use of limited outdoor space.
- For larger properties, a full-size barrel or cabin sauna can create a dedicated outdoor wellness area.
- For exposed coastal locations, consider the sauna’s timber, weather protection, drainage and maintenance requirements.
- For rural properties, wood-fired sauna options may also be worth considering where suitable clearances and installation requirements can be met.
Real Tasmania sauna projects
Shym Saunas has an extensive portfolio of completed and supplied sauna projects across Tasmania.
Projects include:
These projects show how different sauna styles can be adapted to Tasmanian homes, from compact urban spaces to rural and coastal properties.
Tasmania project spotlight: Hobart UNION 160
One of Shym Saunas’ Hobart projects features the UNION 160 outdoor sauna, designed for 3 to 5 people.
The sauna uses thermo-treated Nordic Spruce with 42 mm timber walls, Thermo-Aspen benches, bronze-tinted windows and smart ventilation. It was supplied as a preassembled kit for outdoor installation.
This type of project demonstrates the importance of looking beyond capacity when choosing a sauna. Timber, insulation, bench configuration, glazing, ventilation and site conditions all contribute to the finished experience.
Tasmania project spotlight: Cygnet barrel sauna
A Cygnet project shows a different approach: a full barrel-style outdoor sauna positioned on a timber deck within a rural Huon Valley setting.
The project uses cedar, a panoramic glass window and a wood-fired heater. The setting illustrates how a larger Tasmanian property can accommodate a substantial outdoor sauna while integrating it naturally into the surrounding landscape.
For rural or larger-block properties, the right sauna can become part of the outdoor living environment rather than simply an additional structure.
Which sauna is right for your Tasmania home?
Start with the way you intend to use your sauna.
- For a coupleA compact 2 to 4 person sauna may provide the right balance between capacity and footprint.
- For a familyA 3 to 5, 4 to 6 or larger sauna can provide more usable bench space and room to share sessions.
- For a larger backyardA full-size barrel, cabin or modern outdoor sauna can become the centrepiece of a dedicated wellness area.
- For a traditional sauna experienceChoose an outdoor sauna with an appropriate electric or wood-fired heater.
- For an indoor setupConsider models and configurations specifically suited to indoor installation and confirm ventilation, electrical and room requirements.
Not sure what fits? Contact the team and we can help compare the options.
